It seems that there are three levels of self-awareness.1 For the most part, humans can be self-aware at the level of perception.2 We can be self-aware at the level of comprehension.3 And we can be self-aware at the level of consciousness.
The problem is we’re often not aware of what the third level is. Most people understand the first two, but not the third. On the flip side, the first two are a bit easier than the third because we can remember them so well. But the third level, I can’t begin to imagine what it is.
The problem is we have a hard time remembering what it is, because we have such a hard time remembering what we’re self-aware of. The problem is we don’t realize what we are aware of until it’s too late. So, what can we do? This theory proposes that we can use our awareness to our advantage when it comes to our self-awareness.
What we need to do is to figure out what we want to be aware of. Are we aware of our habits and routines? Are we aware of our impulses and reactions? The best way to figure this out is to ask a very specific question.
I’m going to use that exact question to which I was told this theory applies.
The question I was given was “What are you aware of?” After I answered that question, I got the answer that I was looking for. I am aware of my habits and routines, and I’m also aware of my impulses and reactions. The thing is, I’m aware of this awareness, but what I’m aware of is actually more than this.
This is the thing that I think really explains a lot of the difficulties that I have in my life. I think a lot of the things that I don’t like (like the people I don’t like, or the things I don’t like) are partly because I don’t realize that these things are happening (or that I’m aware of my reactions).
The thing is that the things that you dont like, you dont like because you dont realize you dont like it or because you dont realize the reactions to it. In other words, your habits cause you to behave the way you behave, your impulses cause you to act in certain ways, and your reactions cause you to feel something. But you can’t consciously control any of this.
I liken this to our concept of “self awareness.” We have all sorts of “awareness” of ourselves. We have to be aware of our past behaviors in order to learn from them. We have to be aware of our current feelings in order to change them. We have to be aware of our current surroundings in order to avoid them. But you cannot consciously choose to not be aware of these things.
Although we can consciously choose to act in certain ways, we are not able to choose our reactions. It is the exact opposite of self-awareness. It is the very thing we are striving to avoid. The acconting theory is the idea that our thoughts cause our feelings. In other words, you have to be aware of your thoughts, and your feelings. If you can’t do this, then you are not aware of yourself.
