The best way to understand your client’s needs is to look at the larger picture of what their business will do. This is how you can really develop a deeper understanding of the potential outcome. Sometimes you can’t get a client’s needs out of their words, but you can always ask a question that will get a better response.

Sometimes the questions are so specific that we can’t answer them. This is especially true for clients we know are looking to start a business. If your client tells you that he or she is interested in starting a business, we recommend that you discuss these questions with him or her. In the end, we would hope that you can agree as to what the business objectives are and provide a clear, concise answer.

You’re allowed to talk about what you do and what you want to do to the people you work with, but you shouldn’t have to put it out there.
