I’ve had a lot of time to think about this topic lately, and the question about what James Hogg did to limit unfair business practices has led me to write this series of blog posts. So I’ll start with this one.

So I’ll start with this one. When I was in law school, I was at a party where the owner of an ice cream shop asked me if I wanted to be a lawyer. I said I would but I told him I wasn’t very interested in practicing law and I didn’t think I would ever be a lawyer. I was about to continue with my conversation when I was approached by a guy who was also asking if I was interested in an ice cream shop.

He was asking if I wanted him to come into my shop and ask for my advice. But in that case, I think it would have been better to just say, “No thanks.” The guy made it clear he wanted to be my lawyer and I’d be happy to give him some of my time.

It’s called “limited liability.” When a lawyer makes a request for legal advice, it is usually for a client and not a lawyer. So, if he is a lawyer, he is not legally liable. If he is just asking for advice, then he would be.
