A few weeks ago, I had a conversation about the importance of a good retention bonus. I told this in my blog post, How to Make a good retention bonus, but I couldn’t resist the temptation to share.
I am a big fan of retention bonuses where you get a little extra for doing things that help the site with traffic. I was talking to a friend recently about the importance of having a retention bonus. He said that the way to do retention is to get your site in front of a lot of people. He said that if you are getting tons of links and traffic, that is great. If you are getting a few links and traffic, thats great.
The reason that I don’t like retention bonuses is that they are easily forgotten. Many times I’ve gotten links that did nothing but to lead me to a page that didn’t even exist on my computer. In this type of situation you have no idea what is going on, but that is a fact. So that’s what a retention bonus is.
I think that it would be awesome if if Google would have a simple way to give you some kind of retention bonus. Like a 5-10% bonus that stays with you for longer than a few weeks.
There are many strategies to getting links and getting that bonus, but one of the simplest is to do a little bit of research. Take a look at your competitors’ links. See how many of theirs link to your content. Do that for a few days. If you find that your competitors are doing this, you can probably get some links for free because of the fact that they do this to compete with you.
You’re probably wondering what the retention bonus is. It’s basically a tie-in. Your competitors link to your content and get some kind of tie-in. For example, if you have a site about home improvement you can probably get a link through a link-building campaign if you have the same content on your site.
The content here is just the most-wanted things in the world. This is a great place to start. The content for the site is a little bit different from the rest of the world. You can probably get a link through a link-building campaign if you want but you can’t get the content to host your own site. It’s pretty cool, really.
This is a great tactic if you have a large enough site to get a link directly through a link-building campaign. But even a large site is not a huge amount of content. If you have a site that is just a few hundred pages, most people would be getting through a link-building campaign by themselves, but you can also do this with a site of any size. You have to be able to create original content to get the link. This is great, really.
The problem is that if you don’t have a lot of original content and you don’t have a large enough site, you don’t have a lot of room to do this. In this case, the content you have is probably not enough to get you a link. So if a site is so small that its content is all new to you, it’s unlikely that you will be able to get anyone to link to it.
If you have a lot of content you can do this and not have to get a link. That’s good too. If you have a lot of content that you can do this and not have to get a link, then you don’t have to do this either.
